About the Project
overview
The 2020 global pandemic is affecting the way students learn and study for their courses. How might we prepare students for their course assessments through our online platform outside of assigned homework? In order to keep our users engaged and eager to utilize study tools, we need to have a good understanding of how they want to learn and measure those outcomes appropriately.
We established our sprint questions and possible outcomes early on
how might we
…help students choose the “right” or most important thing to study?
…help students schedule out study time?
…allow users to create their own flashcards?
…provide a reliable way to show progress and a sense of readiness?
…recreate the habit of writing notes in a digital space?
The How Might We’s were divided into groups to provide stronger areas of focus
The prototype
We had a group of other UX designers, product leads, marketing, and learning design participate in this design sprint. Several rough concepts were collected from the team to display in a virtual art museum (we were still in quarantine after all!) to begin the voting process. The chosen concept is translated to a storyboard which will be tested the next week in an InVision prototype.

findings
We tested 7 students that use online courseware for their higher ed classes. Creating their own study content and having the ability to share those notes with other students is important to them. They are willing to engage in extra work to study if the material does not take a lot of time to complete and is customized to their needs/what they need to focus on. Participants typically study in 30 minute increments and tend to take notes by hand.

takeaways
The team really enjoyed being included in the design process with the UX team and found it very valuable. A few things we needed to improve for the next sprint was focusing in on the customer journey map rather than including every edge case. We also felt the subject of study was too broad for this sprint.
